How to apply?

Students are selected yearly by an entrance examination held in Trieste; International (non-EU) students can also be admitted through a preselection based on academic qualifications only.

Financial support:
All admitted candidates will receive a fellowship.
Students with scholarships from other sources (i.e. China Scholarship Council, Vietnam International Education Development, etc.) even of a lower amount are welcome upon availability.

The School may offer, to a small number of candidates not directly admitted to the PhD courses through the preselection for non-EU candidates, a post-graduate fellowship in order to spend a period of internship at SISSA and participate in the PhD entrance exams that will take place in Summer/Autumn.

Courses are taught in English.



PhD degree
(Dottore di ricerca) is awarded only after the final examination at the end of a three - or four-year course of study/research. 

 

SISSA also provides other support as follows:
• A contribution towards living expenses will be awarded to those who will provide a copy of their registered rental contract;
• A contribution towards the expenses associated with enrollment in the health insurance system (non EU students);
• A contribution for the purchase of a laptop;
• A contribution for one trip home during the entire course (non-EU students only);
• A contribution may be awarded to students who are forced to suspend their activity due to illness, maternity or other serious reasons.
