University of Trieste

The spectrum of research activities at the Trieste University is very broad.

The theoretical research ranges from Quantum Mechanics, Elementary particle Physics and Quantum field Theory to Condensed Matter, to the Astrophysics and Cosmology. While experimental physicists are actively engaged in fields ranging from Fundamental Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics to the Physics of Electronic devices and New Materials, from the development of new machines (see e.g. the free electron laser source Fermi at Elettra) to Medical Physics, from Nanotechnology to Astro-particle Physics and Astronomy.

Thanks to the high quality of its Master and PhD programmes the University of Trieste has been included in the CHE excellence group for Physics in 2010.

What about the programme?
It is a three-years programme, with a possible extension to four years upon the request of PhD candidate and his/her supervisor and the approval of scientific committee.

The research fields covered by the programme are the following:
- Astrophysics;
- Condensed Matter Physics;
- Medical Physics;
- Nuclear and sub-nuclear Physics;
- Theoretical Physics.

Courses are followed by examination. Participants will defend a final dissertation at the end of the programme.
