Trieste transport system

Trieste bus system is extensive and comprises more than 50 lines. It is managed by Trieste Trasporti

Where to buy tickets?
Tickets are not sold by the driver! You may buy them:

-at tobacconist's, bars, newsagents in the city. Click here to check the sale points

-at the automatic ticket machines

-in the validating machines on the bus (you may pay by credit/debit card, you can buy only 1 ticket for each credit/debit card) 

- online (you have first to create an account).  If you purchase a monthly, fortnight or annual ticket online you get a 5% discount.  

-by sending a SMS to 4850850 and writing TST for a one way ticket or TSTG for a daily ticket (valid until midnight). You will receive a sms, keep it for all your travel. The ticket is paid with your phone credit. For now available only for Vodafone and Wind clients!

-by Tpl FVG App (available for Android and iOS). Electronic tickets must be validate in the bus by using the QR.


How much does it cost?

Fares change depending on the distance and length of journey: 

  • one way ticket (orario intera rete) €1.45;   
  • daily ticket (giornaliero rete) €3.25; 
  • ten routes ticket (pluricorsa) €13.05;
  • fortnightly ticket (Abbonamento quindicinale) €20.65(1 line) or €24.10 (all bus lines); 
  • monthly ticket (Abbonamento mensile) €31.05 (1 line) or € 38.05 (all bus lines);
  • half-yearly ticket (Abbonamento semestrale) €155.25 (1 line) or € 190.25 (all bus lines);
  • yearly ticket (Abbonamento annuale) €310.50 (1 line) or €380.50 (all bus lines).

A travel ID (tesserino identità) is mandatory along with travel cards (yearly, monthly or fortnightly).
It is valid for 5 years. You can get it online (you have first to create an account) and it costs €5 OR you can get it for free at Trieste Trasporti ticket office (in via dei Lavoratori 2) or in the authorised sales points, e.g. tobacco shop, newsstand (see the list) by handing in:

  • copy of the tax identification number
  • copy of the ID card or passport
  • a passport photo size
  • Form filled in (the form is provided by the authorised sales points)

 

 

Things to Know

Bus Discounts
Students, recently graduated students (within 18 months from the graduation) and incoming researchers or professors (for at least 10 months) might claim for a bus discount if applicable. More info on ARDISS website.

Tramway
Line 2 is an old tram line that links Trieste city center with Opicina and the Carso plateau (348 m above sea level). The line was first run in 1902. The tram leaves Piazza Oberdan every 20 minutes. Tramway is temporary closed and it is replaced with bus line n. 2/.

Ferry boat lines
Ferry boats lines connect Trieste with Muggia and other seaside resorts in Friuli Venezia Giulia during summertime: Grignano, Duino, Sistiana and Barcola. For more information click on  "Servizi Marittimi"
